You can access extra Breakdowns, Tutorials, and 1-2-1 Coaching on the Pro Striking Patreon here: https://www.patreon.com/c/prostriking Floyd Mayweather is often described as the greatest defensive fighter of all time, but his defense was never just the Philly Shell. In this video, I break down Mayweather’s complete defensive system, looking beyond posture and into how he layered fundamentals like slips, shoulder rolls, distance control, smothering, framing, and ring generalship to stay almost untouchable across a 50–0 career. This is part two of a Mayweather series, following on from the psychology and upbringing that shaped his style. Here, the focus is on mechanics and decision-making. What the Philly Shell actually is, where it works, where it breaks down, and why copying the shape without understanding the system gets people hit. The breakdown is aimed at fighters, coaches, and serious students of boxing and combat sports. The goal isn’t to copy Mayweather, but to understand the principles that made his defense work at the highest level and how those ideas can be applied more broadly. If you want more technical breakdowns like this, you can find deeper coaching content through Pro Striking.
