This pay per view marked the end of a succesful year for World Championship Wrestling that saw the company defeat the WWF in the "Monday Night War" Television ratings, and WCW wanted to end their year with a bang. Starrcade 96 would end up becoming one of the very best WCW Pay Per View shows of the whole Eric Bischoff era. nWo leader Hollywood Hulk Hogan vs Rowdy Roddy Piper headlined the show. The WCW Heavyweight Championship was NOT on the line for this match and this is something that has been critisied over the years. While it was never announced that the title wouldn't be on the line, it wasn't announced that it would be on the line either, and this leads to a very Hulk Hogan-esque PPV ending where he would celebrate in the ring after defeat. Elsewhere on the card, Ultimo Dragon and Dean Malenko put on one of the very best opening matches in PPV history, Lex Luger takes on The Giant, Jushin "Thunder" Liger battles Rey Mysterio Jr., and 2 new champions are crowned when the Women's and the US Title Tournaments come to an end at Starrcade. 00:00 - Dean Malenko vs Ultimo Dragon 06:38 - WCW Women's Championship Finals 10:09 - Jushin Liger vs Rey Mysterio Jr. 13:57 - Chris Benoit vs Jeff Jarrett 18:07 - The Outsiders vs The Faces of Fear 21:55 - WCW US Title Tournament Final 26:53 - Lex Luger vs The Giant 29:59 - Hollywood Hogan vs Roddy Piper 36:59 - Closing thoughts #WCW #nWo #Wrestling
