On July 12, 2014, at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA, Mexican star Saúl “Canelo” Álvarez faced slick Cuban southpaw Erislandy Lara in a highly debated junior middleweight showdown. Coming into the fight, Canelo was 43–1–1 (31 KOs), while Lara held a record of 19–1–2 (12 KOs). Lara used his trademark movement, jab, and counterpunching to control distance early, while Canelo focused on applying pressure and landing heavy body shots. The contrasting styles created a tactical and closely contested fight throughout the twelve rounds. As the bout progressed, Canelo’s effective aggression and power punching were weighed against Lara’s defense and ring movement, leading to major debate over who deserved the decision. After twelve rounds, Canelo was awarded a split decision victory, with scorecards of 115–113 (Lara), 115–113 (Canelo), and 117–111 (Canelo). 📍 Date: July 12, 2014 📍 Venue: MGM Grand Garden Arena 📍 Location: Las Vegas, Nevada, USA 🥊 Result: Canelo wins by Split Decision ⏱️ Rounds: 12-Round Junior Middleweight Bout 📊 Records at the time of fight: Saúl “Canelo” Álvarez: 43–1–1 (31 KOs) Erislandy Lara: 19–1–2 (12 KOs) 🔥 A highly controversial tactical battle where Canelo’s pressure and body work edged Lara’s elusive boxing style on the judges’ scorecards. ╔═╦╗╔╦╗╔═╦═╦╦╦╦╗╔═╗ ║╚╣║║║╚╣╚╣╔╣╔╣║╚╣═╣ ╠╗║╚╝║║╠╗║╚╣║║║║║═╣ ╚═╩══╩═╩═╩═╩╝╚╩═╩═╝ to the channel people -------------------- 00:00 Intro 3:50 Round 1 6:10 Round 2 8:30 Round 3 12:32 Round 4 -------------------- ✅Follow me ✅ insta @charlessalbox facebook @charlessalbox #boxing #usa #lasvegas #canelovslara
