Lamont Roach Jr. speaks to Michelle Joy Phelps immediately after making weight ahead of his WBC Lightweight World Championship showdown with William Zepeda in Las Vegas. Fresh from the official weigh-in and final face off, Roach discusses what he saw when staring into Zepeda’s eyes, explains why he believes the unbeaten Mexican challenger is “hungry”, and reveals that his team has identified habits and mistakes they plan to exploit on fight night. The former world champion also reflects on the lessons learned from his previous fights, explaining how they have shaped both his mindset and strategy heading into one of the biggest nights of his career. Roach makes it clear that his goal is to leave no doubt, saying he wants to hurt Zepeda if the opportunity presents itself and “put it away” so the judges are taken out of the equation. Roach also talks about earning greater respect for his ring IQ, why winning the WBC lightweight title would validate everything he has overcome in his career, and his desire to become a two-weight world champion. During the interview, Roach also discusses unfinished business with Gervonta “Tank” Davis and Isaac “Pitbull” Cruz, while revealing his interest in a future unification bout with Raymond Muratalla should both men emerge victorious on Saturday night.
