After rescuing South Africa earlier in the series at Kingsmead, Klusener repeated the act in devastating fashion. Chasing 257, South Africa found themselves under pressure when early wickets fell and the asking rate climbed sharply. Despite strong resistance from Jonty Rhodes and Mark Boucher, the match went down to the wire. With 49 needed off the last five overs, Klusener slowly built his innings before unleashing controlled power hitting straight down the ground and over midwicket. Needing 7 runs from the final two balls, Klusener smashed consecutive fours off Shayne O’Connor, sealing victory in dramatic style. Earlier, New Zealand produced their best batting display of the series, thanks to a magnificent 150-run partnership between Chris Cairns and Roger Twose. Cairns hammered 84 off 72 balls, while Twose finally registered his long-awaited maiden ODI century. However, New Zealand’s failure to accelerate in the final overs proved costly. Despite early breakthroughs by O’Connor and a tight bowling effort, New Zealand were once again left heartbroken—undone by one man in the closing moments. 📍 Venue: Newlands, Cape Town 🏏 Series: Standard Bank ODI Series ⭐ Man of the Moment: Lance Klusener 🔥 Result: South Africa won by 3 wickets (last-over finish) #lanceklusener #savsnz #cricketmax #highlights #thriller
