Long before the UFC, the ancient Greeks were already combining striking, wrestling, takedowns, chokes, joint locks, and ground fighting into one terrifying combat system. It was called Pankration. Introduced into the ancient Olympic Games in 648 BC, Pankration allowed fighters to move freely between striking and grappling with remarkably few restrictions. There were no rounds, no cage resets, and no clear separation between standing and ground combat. Thousands of years before modern MMA, these fighters were already exploring the same fundamental question: what actually works when different fighting styles collide? In this video, we uncover the forgotten history of Pankration, examine its techniques and philosophy, and explore why this ancient Greek martial art feels surprisingly familiar to anyone who watches modern MMA today. From Olympic warriors and ancient submissions to the rise of the UFC and Bruce Lee's philosophy of adaptable combat, this is the story of a fighting system the world nearly forgot. Was Pankration the original MMA? Watch until the end and decide for yourself. This Forgotten Martial Art Was More Brutal Than Modern MMA #kungfu #martialarts #brutal #combatsports #mma #forgotten
