Gervonta "Tank" Davis faced Isaac "Pitbull" Cruz on December 5, 2021, at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, in a highly anticipated lightweight showdown. Davis entered the fight as the heavy favorite, but Cruz's relentless pressure and rugged fighting style made it a competitive contest. Throughout the fight, Cruz applied constant pressure, forcing Davis to work off his back foot. Despite injuring his hand midway through the bout, Davis used his superior boxing IQ, movement, and counter-punching to edge out rounds. Cruz showcased his toughness by absorbing Davis' power punches and landing some of his own, but Davis' accuracy and ring generalship earned him a hard-fought unanimous decision victory. This fight was a breakout moment for Cruz, as he pushed the undefeated Davis to his limits, earning respect despite the loss.
