On July 9, 2011, at Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, New Jersey, USA, former two-division world champion Paul Williams faced unbeaten Cuban southpaw Erislandy Lara in a WBC light-middleweight title eliminator. Coming into the fight, Williams was 39–2 (27 KOs), while Lara was 15–0–1 (10 KOs). Lara used his speed, movement and powerful straight left hand to repeatedly catch Williams, while Williams tried to overwhelm him with a much higher volume of punches and constant pressure. Lara appeared to land cleaner, more effective shots throughout much of the fight. After 12 rounds, Williams was awarded a highly controversial majority decision, with scores of 116–114, 115–114, and 114–114. The decision was so controversial that the New Jersey State Athletic Control Board later suspended all three judges indefinitely, although it did not overturn the official result. 📍 Date: July 9, 2011 📍 Venue: Boardwalk Hall 📍 Location: Atlantic City, New Jersey, USA 🏆 Title: WBC Light-Middleweight Title Eliminator 🥊 Result: Williams wins by Majority Decision ⏱️ Rounds: 12-Round Bout 📊 Records at the time of fight: Paul Williams: 39–2 (27 KOs) Erislandy Lara: 15–0–1 (10 KOs) 🔥 One of boxing's most controversial decisions. Lara's cleaner, harder punches appeared to trouble Williams throughout, but the judges rewarded Williams' relentless activity and pressure. The official result remains a Williams victory, despite widespread belief that Lara deserved the win. -------------------- ╔═╦╗╔╦╗╔═╦═╦╦╦╦╗╔═╗ ║╚╣║║║╚╣╚╣╔╣╔╣║╚╣═╣ ╠╗║╚╝║║╠╗║╚╣║║║║║═╣ ╚═╩══╩═╩═╩═╩╝╚╩═╩═╝ to the channel people 00:00 Intro 2:45 Round 1 5:15 Round 2 7:25 Round 3 9:35 Round 4 -------------------- Follow me insta @charlessalbox facebook @charlessalbox #boxing #usaboxing #boxeocubano #canelo
