Mike Tyson vs Frank Bruno: The Fight That Nearly Shocked the World Mike Tyson vs Frank Bruno was one of the most memorable heavyweight battles of the late 1980s. On February 25, 1989, undefeated heavyweight champion Mike Tyson faced Britain’s Frank Bruno at the Las Vegas Hilton in a championship fight that delivered far more drama than many expected. Tyson entered the fight with a perfect 35–0 record and 31 knockouts, while Bruno came in with a powerful 32–2 record and 31 knockouts. Bruno had major physical advantages in height, weight and reach, but Tyson brought relentless pressure and explosive punching power. The opening round immediately changed the atmosphere. Tyson put Bruno down, but Bruno answered with a shot that visibly staggered Tyson. From there, Tyson continued applying pressure as Bruno tried to use his size and reach to control the fight. By the fifth round, Tyson had taken control. A sustained attack left Bruno in serious trouble, and referee Richard Steele stopped the fight at 2:55 of Round 5, giving Tyson the victory by TKO. In this video, we break down the Mike Tyson vs Frank Bruno fight, the key moments, Bruno’s resistance, Tyson’s pressure, and the dramatic sequence that brought the championship fight to an end.
